Welcome to the German Embassy in Washington, D.C.
What does the Embassy do? What resources are available online and through the Embassy and Washington Consulate? Find the answers here. The Embassy is Germany`s representation in the United States. The Ambassador
and the Foreign service officers maintain contacts with their US counterparts in the State Department and in other federal departments and public institutions.
They also establish relationships with private institutions, organizations and individuals with connections to or interest in Germany. The embassy is also home to a Consulate (one of eight in the
US), which provides visa services for those who would like to travel to Germany and a range of services for German citizens. The Embassy's Departments The Embassy's departments work together to support the Ambassador in his mission. Below you'll find brief descriptions of each department as well as links to real life embassy employees describing their work.
The Chancery is the Embassy's office building. It is located on the western edge of Georgetown in Washington. Along with the Ambassador's Residence and the old residence,
it is situated on just over nine acres at the corner of Foxhall and Reservoir roads.
The Residence of the Ambassador has become something of a modern architectural landmark in the city of Washington. Set on a hill near Georgetown, the stark, light limestone structure overlooks the city and the Potomac River.
